No.1’s Ten reasons to own a barge...

With a name like No. 1, who better to construct a (not entirely serious) list of reasons to own a barge!

(1) When you tell people that you own a barge, most people go “wow!”...  We think it’s pretty “wow!” too.

(2) There’s nothing nicer than having your best friends and family over for a cosy dinner or BBQ on the roof.  The only stress is the fear of a dunking as our side door opens up onto the river!

(3) Cruising the boat up the Thames was amazing and going under such an iconic bridge at Tower was a real highlight.

(4) As none of us had ever gone boating before, we all had to learn new skills. For rope work and locks we’ve learnt to be agile and strong. Whilst Skips maneuvers us into place, speedy rope work keeps us secure.

(5) We are surrounded by a variety of wildlife including Herons and Kingfishers, Grebes and Parakeets.

(6) Although the boat is petite in size, you have a sense of space with water and greenery as far as the eye can see.  The view changes all the time as life on the river flows by.

(7) There is a wonderful sense of community in the boating world with no end of advice and forums discussing the latest news.  When you see a rally, you are overwhelmed with the colourful boats on display.

(8) There is certainly a lot to smile about, especially when you have a great sense of achievement.  You put in hard work and reap the rewards of a beautiful lifestyle.

(9) If you feel like a change from your current surroundings, you just find another mooring and off you go.  We’ve moved around and you make lovely friends along the way.  Or just go for a holiday...

(10 ...If you do take her out for a holiday, you’ll never have the inconvenience of forgetting something!!
